What is The Diploma of Food and Wine Management ?
The Diploma of Food and Wine Management is a 1 year Full time course. It has been designed to meet the needs of people who are working in or seeking work in the Food and Wine Industry.
The full time course aims to provide participants with theoretical and practical activities integral to wine, food and tourism industries. The course has been designed to give students the opportunity to apply industry knowledge to management and marketing, strategic planning and development, promotion, research and problem solving strategies for wine and food enterprises.
Participants who complete the course have the potential to take a leading role in the development and promotion of wine and food enterprises anywhere in the world including Cellar Door Sales, Wine Marketing, Guest and Function Management and Fine Wines Sales or to develop specialist skills through further studies.
What does The Diploma of Food and Wine Management cover?
Two semesters with main topics including:
- Working in regional wine and food industries
- Evaluating regional wines and food
- Strategic management and marketing
- Regional wine and food business operations
Units covered include: viticulture, basic winemaking, biological science of food products, food processing and preservation, advanced evaluation of classic grape varieties, sensory evaluation of wine and food, occupational health and safety, legal knowledge, continuous improvement, communication, client relationships, tourism industry knowledge, strategic development and implementation, marketing planning and communication, budgets and financial plans, international marketing.
Access to Resources
Students will take field trips to appropriate industries and visit operating vineyards and wineries. They will have use to a well equipped resource centre including the a computer suite plus access to cdroms, texbooks, film, video, audio visual and online materials.
Commencement Date
The Diploma of Food and Wine Management course commences in Feb 2008. Expressions of interest are also being taken for ongoing course enrolments.
Entry Requirements
Satisfactory completion of year 12 or overseas equivalent.
English proficiency demonstrated by IELTS 5.5.
